Bat W.I.P

This is Bat, a character I'm working on for a school art project. To put it simply I'm creating a children's book, though the final project will probably be more arty than book-ish. The story for the book (so far) is about a little girl who when falling asleep one night is sucked down into her bed and awakens in a dream world. A lot of the creatures (such as Bat) seem scary at first, but as soon as the little girl gets to know them they turn out to be nice and often very helpful. (Oh, and all of the creatures are named by the little girl, which explains their simple titles.)

Bat will be the second creature that the little girl runs in to, and he'll come flapping frantically out of nowhere and scare the main character. Though the little girl isn't sure what to do at first, she eventually notices that the bat is hurt and fixes up the wound by placing a band-aid on it. (That is why Bat has a red X on one of his wings.) After that Bat calms down and decides to come with the little girl as she continues her journey through the dream-world she is in.

Unfortunately, I had an extremely hard time taking pictures of this so I did my best to doctor it up and make it presentable. The paper is too large for a scanner and the camera I was using is getting old, so this is the best I could do. The texture was added to help smooth over out the uneven lighting as best as possible.
